American crooner Andy Williams, most famous for his rendition of the hit song “Moon River,” as well as his annual Christmas TV specials, has died at the age of 84 after losing his battle with cancer. Williams’ career spanned decades, including film and television appearances, his own network TV show, innumerable tours, and a steady performing gig at a theatre he owned near his home in Branson, Missouri. Williams began singing as a child in his family’s church choir along with his three brothers, and continued on to a celebrated career of over 75 years. Along the way, he racked up 18 gold and three platinum records, as well as a host of other honors. He still performed well into his 80s.
“Legendary singer Andy Williams passed away last night (Tuesday) at home in Branson, Missouri following a year long battle with bladder cancer, it was announced by his family,” his publicist said in a statement confirming Williams’ death. “In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network.”
