ADJ announced the immediate availability of the AX2 lighting console. Developed in partnership with sister company Obsidian Control Systems, the hardware-based control system combines command-line-driven ONYX software with a premium tactile control surface. The console was unveiled at LDI in Las Vegas in December and is now shipping worldwide for live productions, tours, houses of worship, theaters, clubs and permanent installations.
The AX2 features an integrated touchscreen, premium physical controls, a media engine and up to 32 universes of output. At its core, the AX2 is a purpose-built hardware controller engineered for professional environments. Ten high-quality 60mm playback faders, each with four function-assignable buttons, responsive digital encoders, a secondary 3.5-inch touch screen and dedicated function buttons provide hands-on operation. Abright 15.6-inch full HD multi-touch display folds down for protection in transit, while the rugged chassis ensures reliability on the road and in fixed installations.
Powered by Obsidian Control Systems’ ONYX software, the AX2 offers a flexible and dynamic environment. An industrial motherboard loaded with an Intel i5 Hexa-Core CPU paired with 16 GB DDR4 RAM and a 500 GB NVMe M.2 storage drive ensure processing capacity. The console can output up to 32 universes of DMX. Connectivity includes four 5-pin DMX ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports for Art-Net, sACN and ONYX X-Net, plus full MIDI and SMPTE support.
As production demands grow, the AX2 can scale accordingly. The console is fully compatible with the NX Pplayback wing from Obsidian Control Systems as well as any Windows USB touchscreen supporting up to two additional 4K touchscreens.
The AX2 includes a built-in DYLOS Media Engine, which provides five zones of pixel control directly within the ONYX environment. This enables users to create pixel-mapped effects, layered visual content and media-driven looks without a separate media server.
The AX2 is a very significant and exciting addition to ADJ’s product portfolio, said Alfred Gonzales, ADJ USA director of sales. As ADJ has continued to grow in the production, rental, and integration markets with increasingly sophisticated lighting solutions, our customers have been looking for a higher level of control to match. Through this partnership with our sister company, Obsidian Control Systems, we’re now able to offer a powerful, all-in-one DMX control solution that meets the needs of venues and production companies. The response we received when the console was unveiled at LDI was extremely positive, and we’re thrilled to now have the AX2 shipping and excited to get it into the hands of customers.
For users new to ONYX, a comprehensive library of online training materials and tutorial videos is freely available.
