Amanda-Clearcreek High School sophomore Emily Wilson was chosen as a clarinetist for the All-Ohio State Fair Band during the event’s 102nd iteration. AOL.com reported that Wilson joined fellow musicians from across Ohio’s 88 counties for the group’s daily performances throughout the fair.
Under the direction of Brian W. Dodd, who is marking his 20th year leading the ensemble, the band delivered more than 60 musical pieces over a 14-day schedule. Venues ranged from the Ohio Statehouse to the Park of Roses and the newly finished Ohio Showcase. Selection for the group, which has operated since 1925, relies on an application process evaluating musical skill, instrumentation requirements and endorsements from school directors.
Timothy Edwards, superintendent of Amanda-Clearcreek Local Schools, called Wilson’s selection a tremendous achievement. He expressed pride in her accomplishments and thanked the district’s music programs for helping students uncover their talents. The group presents both standard concert works and marching arrangements for fair attendees.
