Andersonuniversity.edu reported that three voice students from the South Carolina School of the Arts Conservatory of Music at Anderson University earned top placements in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) National Student Auditions earlier this month.
The year‑long competition began at the state level in fall 2025 and advanced through three rounds before the final round in San Antonio, Texas, where the National NATS Conference was held July 2‑6.
Jacob Sabella secured first place in the Music Theater Upper Post‑High School Tenor, Bass, Baritone category, while D’Andre Hicks and Abigail Knight each placed third in the Commercial Music Upper Post‑High School Tenor, Bass, Baritone and Commercial Music Lower Post‑High School Treble categories, respectively. All three were instructed by Associate Professor of Music Dr. Seth Killen and accompanied by staff accompanist Janice Wright.
Associate Professor and Vocal Coordinator Dierdre Welborn noted that Anderson University students have been semi‑finalists in almost every National Student Auditions since 2014, with finalists appearing for four consecutive years. Interim Dean Jer Nelsen said the achievements showcase the quality of the Conservatory’s faculty and students.
The students’ travel expenses were covered by the Anderson University Student Government Association.
