The seventh Arezzo Youth Music Festival will bring international chamber music performers under age 35 into local schools before each concert at Teatro Petrarca, La Nazione reported. The festival, organized by Fondazione Guido d’Arezzo and directed by violinist Giovanni Andrea Zanon, runs from Oct. 20 through Nov. 8 with three performances.
School encounters with the artists precede every concert, a format designed to introduce students to classical music and cultivate new audiences. Zanon said the festival has reached thousands of students over the years and that meeting young people in schools is central to the project’s mission of closing the gap between youth and classical music.
The opening concert on Oct. 20 features cellist Ettore Pagano, pianist Gabriele Strata and Zanon performing Schubert and Brahms. A second event on Oct. 30 presents composer Silvia Colasanti’s melologue “Orfeo” with actor Alessandro Preziosi and the Quartetto Eos, directed by Enrico Pagano. The closing performance on Nov. 8 pairs La Scala principal dancers Martina Arduino and Marco Agostino with an ensemble performing Debussy and Schumann.
Fondazione Guido d’Arezzo president Natalie Dentini said bringing top international under-35 talent into schools before their performances treats students as protagonists of the city’s cultural life today, not just the audience of tomorrow.
