Auburn University’s College of Education recently celebrated the addition of a Steinway Spirio | r piano, according to PR Newswire. The instrument was officially unveiled during a special event in the Frech Family Instructional Music Education Laboratory.
The acquisition, made possible by a gift from the You Might Be For Auburn Foundation and contributions from Mary Jean and Danny Sanspree and Carole and Charles Crabbe, represents a significant investment in Auburn’s Music Education Program and its future educators, PR Newswire reported. University leaders, faculty, students and donors attended the unveiling to celebrate the new instrument and the opportunities it will create.
Associate Provost Chase Bringardner emphasized the instrument’s impact on students and their future roles in classrooms and communities, PR Newswire reported. Dean Jeffrey T. Fairbrother highlighted the piano as a transformational teaching tool that will enhance student experiences and place them at the forefront of innovation in music education.
The Steinway Spirio | r, introduced in 2019, is a high-definition re-performance piano that allows for recording, editing, broadcasting and playback while preserving the sound and feel of a Steinway. Auburn’s College of Education is now among a select few institutions to integrate this technology into its music education curriculum, providing students with access to performances from renowned artists and opportunities for remote collaboration.
Music Education student Lauren Fuller expressed gratitude for the donors’ generosity, noting it is an investment in her and her peers’ education, PR Newswire reported. The acquisition also establishes a long-term partnership between the College of Education and Steinway & Sons, creating opportunities for master classes, artist engagement and faculty development.
