The Professional Music Conservatory “José Salinas” received the 2026 Dama de Baza Culture Award, the most important recognition granted by the Baza City Council. Baza reported that the municipal Culture commission unanimously selected the school for its trajectory, strong local ties, and constant contributions to educational and artistic growth in Baza and the surrounding comarca.
Manuel Gómez, the conservatory director for the past decade, accepted the honor during a gala at the Palace of the Marquises of Cadimo. The event was presided over by Mayor Pedro J. Ramos alongside municipal officials and regional education representatives. According to the report, the institution has trained multiple generations of musicians since its 1991 founding as an elementary center, evolving into a provincial benchmark.
The school currently employs 51 teachers offering instruction in seventeen instrumental specialties. Its curriculum has expanded from an initial focus on piano, guitar, and violin to include woodwinds, brass, percussion, and flamenco guitar, with a tuba specialty added for the 2026-2027 academic year. During the ceremony, city leaders presented Gómez with a separate tribute recognizing his personal dedication and commitment to music education. The award highlights the institution’s role as a leading cultural entity in northern Granada province.
