The 48th annual Belpre Lions Club Apple Butter Stir Off runs Saturday and Sunday at Civitan Park, the Marietta Times reported. The festival includes food, entertainment and apple butter straight from the kettle and into the jar.
Belpre Lions Club president Jolene Reeder said bottled apple butter will be ready when the festival opens at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Pioneer Presbyterian Church congregation handles the cooking, stirring and bottling, while the Lions Club organizes the rest of the event.
Entertainment includes the Gypsy River Acoustic Duo and River Rats on Saturday, and Levi and Hannah Westfall, the Belpre High School Marching Band, Vuja De and the Wayward Dancers on Sunday.
Reeder said the festival also features children’s activities, hay rides, a judged coloring contest, vendors and a costumed dog pageant, which she called one of the most popular events. She said she is looking forward to favorable weather and appreciates the community support that has sustained the festival. Planning has not started, but Reeder said the club wants to do something bigger for the 50th celebration in two years.
