A community fundraising event scheduled for Aug. 15 will support the Big Rapids High School marching band along with Angels of Action, a local organization serving young people.
The Big Rapids Pioneer reported that Baker dealerships will host the event with food, raffles and family activities. Organizers set a $15,000 fundraising goal.
For school music programs, community events can serve two purposes: generating direct financial support and strengthening relationships among students, families, businesses and residents before travel and performance expenses arrive.
The event also demonstrates how band fundraising can be paired with another community cause rather than operating as an isolated appeal.
