The Campbell County High School Marching Band earned a first-place finish in Division 2A at the Clinch River Classic Competition held at Anderson County High School. WLAF reported that the ensemble also secured second-place honors for its drum major, percussion section, and color guard during the event hosted by the Clinton High School Band.
According to WLAF, Co-Band Director Tiffany Braden described this achievement as the program’s strongest season start since she assumed leadership. Braden noted that while the group placed fourth two years ago and second last year, the current students have shown remarkable improvement. She attributed this success to the dedication of the staff and what she considers the best student leadership team the program has ever had.
This year’s show, titled “Olympus,” features three movements representing Greek deities and includes theatrical characters on the field. Braden told WLAF that the production involves the most difficult music and drills the students have attempted, requiring significant extra work. Although she previously considered the theme too challenging for the available instrumentation, the ensemble executed the complex performance successfully. Braden emphasized that her primary focus remains on student effort rather than trophies as the band prepares for upcoming competitions in October.
