Students at Campbell High School have transformed the school’s marching band into the Legion of Boom, a student-initiated direction that brings a bolder sound and renewed energy to football games and school pride.
cobbk12.org reported that band members voted to try something different, prompting Band Director Marcus Chester and Assistant Band Director Jimmy Jucks to develop the concept to support the students’ vision and raise excitement levels.
Senior Carrington Hughes described the change as something never before seen at the school. Junior Royal Randolph IV said the energy has helped hype crowds and bring more enthusiasm to performances.
School administrators, students and community members have embraced the shift, with performance videos shared on YouTube expanding the band’s reach. Student Makenzie Williams said the band continues to develop and improve daily, while Imani Welch called the changes a major shift for the program.
First-year member Palmer Cook praised fellow members for their support and described the program as a family. Students noted that summer practices can be demanding but rewarding, and that newcomers need only a willingness to learn.
The band is recruiting for next school year, with spring auditions planned for drum majors, the drumline and the Sapphire dance team. Interested students can begin by enrolling in band class and attending summer camp.
