Carnegie Hall has announced that music director and conductor Lü Jia and the China NCPA Orchestra will present the U.S. premiere of Qigang Chen’s Luan Tan in place of his previously announced work, Itinéraire d’une illusion, during the orchestra’s concert on Monday, October 30 at 8:00 p.m.

The composer has postponed the premiere of Itinéraire d’une illusion in order to allow time to complete the final version of the work.

Completed in 2015, Luan Tan was originally premiered in Hong Kong by Xian Zhang and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Qigang Chen writes in his program note that his “inspiration was from the traditional form of Luan Tan—an outgoing musical style in Chinese drama originating around 1600—with timbres and characters from this style making an inevitable appearance in the work.”

The remainder of the China NCPA Orchestra’s program will be the same, including the Yellow River Concerto by Xian Xinghai, arranged by Yin Chengzong / Sheng Lihong / Chu Wanghua / Liu Zhuang, featuring piano soloist Haochen Zhang and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2.
