Juilliard presents cellist Jay Campbell at Weill Recital Hall on Sunday, December 6, 2015, at 7:30pm as the winner of Juilliard’s 4th annual Leo B. Ruiz Memorial Recital. The program features Elliott Carter’s Figment I for cello alone (1994); David Fulmer’s Original Wood (2015) with Juilliard alumnus, pianist Conor Hanick; the world premiere of Jason Eckardt’s Practical Alchemy (2015); Matthias Pintscher’s Janusgesicht (2001) with Juilliard alumnus, violist David Fulmer; and Charles Wuorinen’s Orbicle of Jasp (1999) with pianist Conor Hanick. Mr. Campbell is currently in the Artist Diploma program at Juilliard where he studies with cellist Fred Sherry.

Free tickets will be available beginning at 6:30pm at the Carnegie Hall Box Office (154 West 57th Street, NYC).

The Juilliard School is deeply grateful for a gift from the Estate of Leo B. Ruiz, which is making this recital possible. Leo B. Ruiz was founder and executive director of Artists International Presentations, Inc., a nonprofit organization that promoted artists from all over the world, including many musicians from Juilliard. Thanks to his passion for presenting young musicians to the world from 1972 to 2009, and to his generous gift, The Juilliard School is now able to award a recital at Weill Recital Hall to one gifted young artist each year. This recital program honors the legacy of Mr. Ruiz.
