Central College’s music program will host the Middle School Bandfest on campus, culminating in a free public concert Thursday at 6 p.m. in Douwstra Auditorium inside Central Hall. KNIA – KRLS reported the information.
More than 200 seventh and eighth grade musicians across 24 schools were nominated by their band directors, with 96 ultimately selected to perform. The chosen students will spend a day on Central’s campus rehearsing concert pieces with director of bands Brad Lampe and experiencing college life alongside Central music students, according to the report.
Central’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform first, followed by the honor band. Both groups are under Lampe’s direction, and he organized this year’s Bandfest. The concert requires no tickets, and free-will donations will be accepted at the door.
The event gives middle school musicians nominated by their school band directors an opportunity to rehearse in a college setting and perform with a collegiate wind ensemble before a public audience.
