Pop artist Charlie Puth visited a New York City elementary school classroom to teach students how ordinary objects can become part of a musical composition, according to 103.9 Wayne FM.
During an October 6 episode of Celebrity Substitute, Puth guided young students through the creative process of building an original track. The lesson began with students recording noises from everyday items including a comb and masking tape, the station reported. Puth then transformed those recordings into a beat and encouraged the children to contribute lyrics, vocals and rap performances.
The experience introduced students to basic recording and production techniques while demonstrating how classroom activities can become collaborative musical experiences, 103.9 Wayne FM reported. Puth, whose mother worked as a music educator, drew on that personal connection to the role music can play in children’s lives. Students also asked him questions about his music career and his experience becoming a father, according to the station.
The appearance offered a look at Puth’s songwriting approach while giving elementary students hands-on exposure to creating music from familiar sounds, 103.9 Wayne FM reported.
