For five days, Christchurch transforms into a vibrant musical hub as the Christchurch Big Band Jazz Festival celebrates its 17th year. The festival brings together community bands, school jazz groups, CYJO (Chch Youth Jazz Orchestra), students, and professional musicians from across New Zealand to enjoy a joyful celebration of Big Band music. From classic swing and jazz standards to modern funk and pop, the festival features over 60 performances by more than 500 musicians in 20+ bands.
Most events are free and take place throughout the CBD, offering an opportunity for everyone to experience the energy of live music. Whether you’re dancing, discovering jazz for the first time, or simply enjoying the atmosphere, the festival offers something for all ages and musical tastes.
