The Clovis High School marching band has been chosen to perform in the 2027 Rose Parade in Pasadena on New Year’s Day, marking the ensemble’s first appearance in the annual event since 1986.
KVPR reported that Tournament of Roses president Terry Madigan announced the selection during a Friday ceremony on the high school campus, recognizing the band’s achievement after years of applying. Madigan said the band improved with each application, making the final decision an easy one.
The Clovis High band includes nearly 250 students who will each walk the parade’s five-and-a-half-mile route on January 1, 2027. Clovis High is one of only eight schools nationwide selected to participate.
Principal Matt Lucas said students spent hundreds of hours preparing for a possible return to the parade, with support extending from elementary school through high school. Lucas described the music program as a giant family, with educators working with students early in the morning and late in the evening.
Head drum major Noah Xiong said the opportunity feels surreal and meaningful to the entire band. Madigan encouraged students to take in the experience as they perform before hundreds of thousands of spectators and millions of online viewers. The band will also march in a parade at Disneyland the following day.
