Coimbatore students receive london music diplomas

deccanchronicle.com reported that students in Coimbatore recently received Licentiate degrees from the London-based International School of Musicians (ISoM), making them eligible to teach music across the world. The event marked the first such convocation for the organization in India, linking the region with Western music traditions.

ISoM founder Dr. June Fileti traveled to Coimbatore to present the awards. She described the school as a recognized body offering remote lessons and performance assessments designed to help learners progress from beginner to advanced levels. Three musicians from the Nilgiris and one from Coimbatore earned the professional Licentiate qualification. Approximately 15 other participants received diploma or associated diploma degrees.

Issac Sunder, the ISoM South India regional representative and a degree recipient, observed that interest in Western instruments has grown in India due to increased digital access and evolving parental perspectives. He noted that families increasingly value structured musical training for its potential benefits to discipline and focus. Furthermore, exposure to international genres through social media and streaming services has encouraged young people to pursue contemporary styles and flexible educational paths beyond conventional choices.
