Composer Mike d’Abo to honor Stroud music teacher at school fundraiser

Legendary composer Mike d’Abo will join former students and West End performers for a fundraiser honoring Ros Tyler, a beloved music educator at Archway School in Stroud. The Stroud Times reported that the event supports Longfield Hospice, which cared for Tyler before her death in 2024.

Tyler directed major musical theater productions at the school during the 1990s and 2000s, guiding numerous pupils toward professional stardom while instilling a lasting passion for performance in hundreds of others. Former students and Tyler’s family organized the gathering to celebrate her impact on music education and classroom access to the arts.

d’Abo, who lives locally, praised the exceptional talent emerging from Tyler’s training programs. He noted that schools prioritizing drama and music curricula create worthwhile experiences for families despite the heavy workload involved in casting and rehearsing annual shows. The upcoming afternoon event features a musical theater proms, entertainment attractions, and vendors to engage music lovers of all ages.

Organizers aim to surpass the £12,000 raised during last year’s inaugural tribute. Proceeds from ticket sales and donations will directly benefit the hospice community. This gathering highlights how dedicated educators shape student trajectories and sustain local artistic communities through sustained curriculum focus.
