IANR News reported that the Cornhusker Marching Band at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will hold its annual exhibition concert on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium. Tony Falcone, senior lecturer and director of the band within the Glenn Korff School of Music, stated the schedule change from the traditional final night of band camp accommodates a separate concert by the Boys from Oklahoma on Aug. 21.
The free public event showcases highlights from the ensemble’s preseason curriculum and training. A featured component is the drill down, an activity Falcone described as similar to Simon Says. During this segment, drum majors issue extemporaneous commands to student musicians, who must execute them without error. Participants making discernable mistakes are eliminated until one student remains.
Falcone assured the campus community and public that the rescheduled night will maintain the same spirit and fun associated with the program. Following this exhibition, the student ensemble is scheduled to perform at all seven home football games, beginning with the season opener against Ohio on Sept. 5. Attendees for the exhibition should enter through Gates 3 and 11 when they open at 6 p.m.
