Crestview High School in Florida has been named a 2026 Earl D. Irons Program of Distinction by Phi Beta Mu International, making it the first band program from the state to receive the honor and one of only two nationwide this year. Get The Coast reported that the selection committee recognized the ensemble for its sustained excellence and deep commitment to student development.
Band Director Jody Dunn stated that the award reflects the collective effort of current students, middle school feeder programs, and generations of former directors and families who have supported the program since 1938. Dunn emphasized that students remain the core of the organization, citing their dedication, character, and hard work as central to this achievement.
School Principal Victoria Hayden noted that the recognition highlights a decades-long culture of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance demonstrated by students inside and outside the classroom. Okaloosa County Superintendent Marcus Chambers added that the distinction honors both current leadership and the historical legacy established by past members and community supporters. The band will be formally recognized during the Phi Beta Mu Awards Breakfast at the 2026 Midwest Clinic in Chicago, an event gathering music educators and performers globally. Dunn affirmed that the students earned the opportunity to represent their school and community on this international stage.
