The Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland will present Music for Peace, a humanitarian concert at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, celebrating the ensemble’s 30th anniversary. The Journal of Music in Ireland reported that the event will feature a 100-member youth orchestra and a 350-member children’s choir alongside guest artists.
The concert is described as an event for children by children, with 100% of box office income donated directly to humanitarian relief efforts supporting children affected by conflict zones. A principal sponsor will match all funds raised through ticket sales and public donations, according to the report.
Founded in 1995 as a peace initiative following a major ceasefire in Northern Ireland, the orchestra is based in Dundalk, Co. Louth, and draws young musicians from counties across Ireland, north and south. The organization is known for its Peace Proms programme, a free educational and choral initiative involving approximately 35,000 primary school children annually.
Beyond Peace Proms, the organization provides free instruments, tuition, mentoring and performance opportunities for hundreds of young people, particularly in Border counties. The orchestra has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, Chicago Symphony Hall and the Oriental Arts Centre in Shanghai.
