recording mixer and dialogue editor at The Post Republic London, has integrated NUGEN Audio DialogCheck into his workflow to maintain precision and consistency across projects. Johnson utilizes the speech intelligibility measurement plugin alongside NUGEN Audio tools including VisLM, ISL and Halo Upmix for film and streaming productions.
Johnson, who has more than two decades of experience mixing and editing for major broadcasters and streaming platforms, specializes in dialogue editing and mixing. His credits include content for Netflix, Amazon, the BBC and StudioCanal. He worked directly with NUGEN Audio’s development team to provide feedback during the DialogCheck beta phase after being introduced to the tool through a colleague.
“I’d like to think I’m known for the quality of my mixes,” Johnson said. “I’m slightly more dialogue-focused, maybe because Ido dialogue editing as well. Once you get that right, the tasks of mixing, effects and music become much more straightforward. Dialogue is the solid base of every mix.”
Johnson’s path to post-production began with a love of music and sound. After earning a degree in Music and Sound Recording from the University of Surrey, he discovered post-production audio while working his way from runner to re-recording mixer at London studios Videosonics and Molinare.
Today, Johnson is a BAFTA and RTS award winner, as well as an Emmy and Golden Reel nominee. He focuses on vocal clarity and balance, noting that DialogCheck is designed to measure the intelligibility of speech within a mix. Johnson is known for a nuanced approach to vocal clarity that places dialogue at the heart of every story. NUGEN Audio provides the suite of plugins used by Johnson for industry standard productions.
