The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) today announced that violinist Benjamin Beilman will replace Renaud Capuçon in the final two DSO programs of its three-week French Festival, February 22, 23, and 24.

Capuçon is unable to appear due to illness.

Beilman will perform Saint-Saëns’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso on the second program, in place of the previously announced Violin Sonata by Ravel. The rest of the music remains the same, with Mr. Beilman featured in Saint-Saëns’ Violin Concerto No. 3 in the first program and Ravel’s Tzigane on the second. Music Director Leonard Slatkin conducts.

The first program takes place Thursday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Friday, February 23 at 10:45 a.m. The second program takes place Friday, February 23 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, February 24 at 8 p.m. at Orchestra Hall, within Midtown Detroit’s Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center.

The Friday morning and Saturday evening concerts will be webcast for free at dso.org/live and via Facebook Live, as part of the DSO’s groundbreaking Live from Orchestra Hall series. The series is presented by Ford Motor Company Fund and made possible by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
