Devon Music Education Hub has been shortlisted for three national music education awards and already secured a major win, Devon County Council reported. The hub supports thousands of children and young people across Devon, Plymouth, and Torbay in accessing music education.
The council said the hub is shortlisted in a new Music Hubs and Services category at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, recognizing its support for the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra, its partnership with the Sidmouth International Jazz and Blues Festival, and jazz learning opportunities delivered in and out of schools. Winners will be announced in London on Oct. 13.
The hub also shared in a Making Music Awards win for “Don’t Go Extinct!,” a climate-focused cantata for young voices by composer Bob Chilcott with words by Timothy Knapman. Jointly commissioned by Budleigh Music Festival and the hub, the work was premiered in Budleigh Salterton and Plymouth, bringing together hundreds of students from local schools and hub-supported ensembles, along with visiting young singers from Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Additionally, the council said the hub is shortlisted in the Outstanding Musical Initiative category of the Music and Drama Education Awards 2027 for its Future Musicians programme. Developed with music educator Music With Mr Gray, the inclusive ensemble model enables students of all ages, abilities and instruments to perform together and has engaged thousands of young people across Devon over the past year.
