Discovery Elementary Teacher Helps Make Music History

apsva.us reported that Discovery Elementary School music teacher Samantha Tramack helped make music history as the bass singer for GQ, the first all-female quartet to win the Barbershop Harmony Society International Quartet Championship in the organization’s 88-year history.

GQ earned the 2026 International Quartet Gold Medal on July 4 in St. Louis, Missouri, after advancing through a year-long series of district and regional qualifying competitions and competing against more than 50 of the world’s best quartets during the Barbershop Harmony Society International Convention. Tramack has served as a general music and choir instructor at Discovery Elementary for three years within Arlington Public Schools, and is entering her seventh year as an educator.

According to apsva.us, Superintendent Dr. Francisco Durán credited this historic win to the dedication, perseverance, and pursuit of excellence that Tramack demonstrates both in and out of the classroom. The quartet, founded more than a decade ago, has previously earned numerous medals in national and international competition and garnered more than 7 million views across social media. apsva.us notes that this championship marks a significant milestone for the Barbershop Harmony Society and serves as an inspiration to aspiring musicians everywhere.
