Indonesian musician Dwiki Dharmawan is working to elevate the Farabi Music Education Center from a course institution into a music college, aiming to prepare students to meet global standards. VOI.ID reported the plans following Dharmawan’s appearance on the Dewa Budjana YouTube channel.
Dharmawan said Farabi has a sandwich program with the Australian Institute of Music that allows students to continue their studies directly into the second, third or fourth semester in Australia. He acknowledged that Farabi currently operates as a course institution, but said he wants it to become a university-level strata.
The path is complicated by a moratorium at the Ministry of Education on accepting new licenses. Dharmawan said Farabi may need to acquire a license from a university that has gone bankrupt or cannot survive, then convert it into a music college.
Dharmawan described Farabi as more than a music course business, calling it a regeneration container for Indonesian musicians. He noted that younger musicians now have more capable techniques and a strong producer’s soul from an early age, which he attributed to wider access to information through digital platforms.
