Three East Rockaway Jr./Sr. High School students traveled to Albany to perform with the New York American Choral Directors Association Middle School Honor Choir, liherald.com reported. Ashley Guardado, Julian Mena and AnnMarie Piazza joined 115 middle school singers from across the state during the organization’s annual summer conference held Aug. 7-9 at Siena University.
According to liherald.com, participation in this ensemble allows talented vocalists to work on challenging repertoire alongside accomplished peers from different communities. Students gain entry through nomination by a New York-based ACDA member who works closely with them in a choral setting, the outlet noted. This selection process enables students to apply skills learned in their own school music programs within a larger ensemble context.
The three East Rockaway students dedicated part of their summer vacation to learning and practicing the required pieces before traveling to the conference, liherald.com stated. Once in Albany, they rehearsed with the selected group before delivering the final performance. The experience provided an opportunity to sing with like-minded peers while meeting the demands of high-level choral literature.
Their involvement marked an accomplishment for both the individual singers and the East Rockaway School District music program, as they represented their hometown among musicians chosen from across New York, the source added. The district officially congratulated the trio on their selection, summer preparation and successful performance at the event.
