Essex Youth ensembles to perform at Cremona Summer Festival

The Cremona Summer Festival will feature two concerts by United Kingdom youth ensembles on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the Cortile Federico II. Cremonaoggi reported that the Essex Youth Orchestra is scheduled to perform at 6 p.m., followed by the Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra and Essex Youth Jazz Nonet at 9 p.m.

According to the outlet, the Essex Youth Orchestra, founded in 1957, serves as the flagship ensemble of the Essex Music Service. The group unites top young musicians from across Essex county, many of whom have launched professional careers through the program. Robin Browning and 17-year-old Atharv Gupta will conduct the orchestra’s symphonic repertoire, which includes works by Strauss, Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky.

Later in the evening, the Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra and Essex Youth Jazz Nonet will present British jazz sounds under the direction of Martin Hathaway and Thomas Jiggins, respectively. Cremonaoggi noted these ensembles provide students opportunities to develop improvisation skills and stylistic awareness. The Essex Music Service, supported by the Department for Education through the Arts Council England, facilitates these learning pathways for children and young people of every social context. Both free concerts highlight the intersection of European symphonic traditions and contemporary jazz training within youth music training pathways.
