European Music School Union advocates for arts education in EU budget

The European Music School Union (EMU) is urging policymakers to ensure that music and arts education receives adequate visibility within the upcoming European Union budget, spanning 2028 to 2034. According to the EMU, decisions being made now will have lasting effects on music schools, instructors, learners, and other institutions across the continent.

The proposed Multiannual Financial Framework, totaling nearly €2 trillion, introduces significant changes to EU funding structures, emphasizing flexibility and strategic investments. The EMU, in collaboration with the Association Européenne des Conservatoires and the European Association for Music in Schools, is working to address how music and arts education will be represented in this new financial landscape.

The EMU is encouraging its national member organizations to communicate these concerns to their governments and engage with decision-makers. A practical advocacy approach has been developed, inviting members to personalize a standard letter with local examples and share it with relevant governmental bodies.
