The European Music School Union announced the publication of the TEAM Learning Outcomes, a forward‑looking reference intended to support high‑quality classroom music teaching in primary and secondary schools across Europe. The outcomes are presented in a concise poster booklet that lists 25 descriptors – 20 core and 5 transversal – that are mutually interlinked to guide future music teachers.
Each transversal descriptor is meant to be applied alongside all core descriptors, a relationship illustrated through an online dynamic tool that showcases potential teaching activities. The design follows several key principles: short imperatives in the second person, integration of musical and pedagogical competencies, a single set usable by both generalist and specialist teachers, omission of European Qualification Framework levels, and an abstract level that allows alignment with local reference frameworks.
The outcomes build on the earlier meNet (2009) and EAS (2013) descriptor sets. Development involved a data‑driven, multi‑stakeholder process that included a scoping review of future‑oriented trends and several feedback rounds with consortium partners, associated partners, and EAS Special Focus Groups.
The TEAM Project – Teacher Education Academy for Music, Future‑Making, Mobility and Networking in Europe – operates from 2023 to 2026. It aims to reshape initial and ongoing music teacher education and school music education in Europe in response to professionalization, digitization, intercultural learning, sustainability and social coherence needs, as outlined by the working group chaired by Thomas De Baets and colleagues.
