A federal school-infrastructure proposal would make music and arts instructional spaces eligible for improvements under a large grant and bond program. The Rebuild America’s Schools Act of 2026, H.R. 7340, proposes need-based grants to local education agencies and a renewed school-infrastructure bond program.
The bill text specifically lists instructional program space for music and the arts among eligible facility improvements. It also covers accessibility, health and safety, excessive classroom noise, broadband and other modernization needs. The introduced measure would authorize $20 billion annually for grants from fiscal 2027 through 2031 and establish separate bond authority, but those amounts would depend on enactment and subsequent federal funding decisions.
The proposal has not become law. Its inclusion of music spaces is nevertheless important for districts where rehearsal rooms, performance areas, storage, acoustics and accessibility compete with other capital priorities.
