inkl reported that Fèis Rois, a leading traditional music education charity in Scotland, will host a spectacular 40th anniversary concert at Eden Court in Inverness. The event brings together musicians from four decades of the organization’s history alongside young performers representing its future. What began as a small gathering in 1986 has evolved into a movement transforming arts education across the Highlands, now engaging more than 5,000 children and adult learners annually with nearly 200 freelance musicians.
The initiative started when strings instructor Christine Martin proposed a local project after attending Fèis Bharraigh on the Isle of Barra in 1981. According to inkl, award-winning fiddle player Lauren MacColl credited the program with providing the cultural grounding and professional confidence necessary to build a freelance career within the region. The upcoming celebration features a 40-piece house band led by musical director Innes White, joined by youth ensembles including the 2026 Ceilidh Trail and Cluich Rois. Chief Executive Fiona Dalgetty stated the organization remains focused on uniting people through music while fostering creativity and cultural exploration. The concert highlights partnerships with the National Celtic Festival of Australia and major folk festivals in Cambridge, Sidmouth, and Lorient.
