A former Wisconsin high school band director was sentenced Tuesday to seven years in prison after being convicted of 20 counts of child pornography possession, WLUK reported.
James Neujahr, 64, who taught at Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton, was also placed on extended supervision for seven years and ordered to register as a sex offender by Judge Yadira Rein, according to WLUK.
Before sentencing, Neujahr apologized to the Fox Valley Lutheran High School community and referenced victim impact statements, saying the children in the images are real human beings who deserve respect, love and protection, WLUK reported.
According to the criminal complaint cited by WLUK, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children tipped the Appleton Police Department about child pornography images sent online. Police searched Neujahr’s home, where he acknowledged years of searching for such material. Investigators estimated approximately 2,000 files on an external hard drive appeared to be child sexual abuse material.
Fox Valley Lutheran High School said there are no allegations involving students from the school or any other schools and organizations Neujahr served, WLUK reported. The school terminated his employment after charges were filed.
