The Franklin High School Black Knight Marching Band is practicing during an unusually cool August for its annual two-week camp, The Derrick reported. Band Director Steve Johnston noted that while many days have been cooler with some drizzle, the generally lower temperatures have been beneficial for the students’ energy levels.
Students focused on rehearsing new songs and choreography, including a performance of LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” featuring the running man dance. The Derrick documented various ensemble members refining their skills, such as Knightette Captain Gabi Ion leading formations and trombonist Robby Shouey practicing instrumental parts. Percussionist Lillian Peterson was also observed keeping the beat during morning sessions.
The camp schedule included specific drills for the Knightettes, who practiced final moves ending in splits on the ground. As the program prepares to wrap up this week, the ensemble experienced sun burning away morning mist, allowing the full band to integrate dance routines with musical execution under Johnston’s direction from the stands.
