The Fredonia Chamber Choir at the State University of New York at Fredonia will join the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for a world premiere this weekend, Observer Today reported.
The ensemble will perform “Francis: An Oratorio in Nine Scenes” by composer Richard Danielpour with Sr. Margaret Carney as librettist, according to the report. The Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus will also collaborate in the performance, which will be conducted by JoAnn Falletta.
The Fredonia Chamber Choir is the premier choral ensemble at Fredonia, consisting of 24 singers auditioned from 170 voice majors, Observer Today reported. The choir tours annually and represents the Fredonia School of Music through advanced choral programs and community outreach. It is directed by Dr. Vernon Huff.
Performances are slated for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo. The work is inspired by the life of St. Francis of Assisi, marking the 800th anniversary of his death, and explores compassion, transformation, care for creation, and the search for meaning in a divided world, the report stated.
