Billboard reported that Matt Serletic has been named the new dean of the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. This appointment makes Serletic the sixth dean to lead the program, which recently celebrated its centennial anniversary. As an alumnus holding both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music performance from the institution, Serletic brings extensive professional experience to the role of educating future musicians.
According to Billboard, Serletic is a two-time Grammy winner known for producing hits for major artists and has served on the school’s advisory committee since 2018. In statements to Billboard, the new dean emphasized the importance of training students for actual careers rather than just awarding degrees. He stated his goal is to make the school fearless and deeply connected to the local Miami music industry. University of Miami Provost Joel Samuels told Billboard that Serletic’s background in creation, business, and technology positions him to guide the faculty and student body through the next century of transformation. Billboard also noted that Serletic was recently honored with a Frost Centennial Medal as one of 100 distinguished alumni contributing to the music field.
