Frost Music Live presents its critically acclaimed Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra in a very special evening celebrating the music of the GRAMMY and Oscar winning legendary composer it honors, Henry Mancini, Friday, February 19, 2021 at 7:30 PM. The concert will be broadcast live from the 600-seat capacity Gusman Concert Hall on the Frost School of Music campus at the University of Miami. In keeping with the Frost School’s policy since the beginning of the pandemic, the concert will be broadcast live and free to the public on YouTube.

Featured in the evening’s program is special guest multi-GRAMMY nominated musician, composer, pianist Dean Shelly Berg of the Frost School of Music. It was Dean Berg, who with the blessing of the Mancini family moved the Henry Mancini Institute to Miami in 2007, where its values could be merged with the Frost School’s shared passion for training young musicians for a wider world of music than traditional conservatories. The evening’s program will also showcase the music of HMI’s Artistic Director multi GRAMMY winning composer/musician and orchestra leader Maria Schneider and former Managing Director of HMI Steve Guerra.

“HMI is so excited to return to live performance, and to celebrate the past, the present, and the future here at the Frost School of Music,” stated Scott Flavin, Resident Conductor, The Henry Mancini Institute, Professor of Violin Frost School of Music. “We’ll be presenting original arrangements by Henry Mancini himself, contributions by past and present Artistic Directors of HMI, and our own fabulous pianist and composer Shelly Berg, who is responsible for bringing HMI to Frost—this will be a performance not to be missed!”

The Frost School of Music’s Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra (HMI Orchestra) is a highly acclaimed ensemble comprised of a full orchestra (strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion), plus a full jazz band (saxophones, trombones, trumpets), rhythm section instruments (piano, guitar, bass, drums) and world percussion. HMI is made up of writers, arrangers and musicians who play a multitude of musical styles, including classical, jazz, Latin, world music and others. They often work with artists and composers on the cutting edge of today’s music to create unique and contemporary blends of these genres.
