Furtados School of Music reported that FSM CAA operates as India’s first high school built specifically for student musicians. The program eliminates the traditional conflict between academic studies and serious musical training by making music a core subject rather than an extracurricular activity. Through a partnership with Corvuss American Academy, the initiative serves students in grades eight through twelve on a residential campus in Karjat, Maharashtra.
The curriculum integrates a WASC-accredited academic framework based on the College Board’s Advanced Placement system with National Core Arts Standards for music. According to Furtados School of Music, students engage daily in performance training, theory, composition, and ensemble practice as part of their required coursework. This structure allows learners to prepare for the AP Music Theory examination alongside practical assessments from Trinity College London and ABRSM.
By housing students on a single campus, the program removes commuting barriers and aligns academic timetables with rehearsal schedules. Furtados School of Music noted that admission is selective, targeting individuals who already demonstrate discipline and intend to pursue careers in performance, composition, or music technology. The model aims to ensure students graduate with a robust portfolio recognized by international conservatories while maintaining university-ready academic credentials.
