Georgia State University News reported that the School of Music has named T. Devin Reid as director of athletic bands and associate director of bands, effective fall 2026. Reid, who previously served in these roles on an interim basis since June 2025, leads the Panther Band, conducts the Wind Orchestra and Panther Basketball Band, and teaches undergraduate and graduate conducting courses.
School of Music Director Julia Bullard noted Reid’s decade-long contribution to the faculty and his success in fostering collaboration during his interim tenure. Since joining the university in 2013, Reid has expanded the University Concert Band into the campus’s largest instrumental ensemble, open to students from every college. His leadership has guided the marching band to featured selections at CBDNA conferences and performances at major events including the Super Bowl and the Tournament of Roses Parade.
Bands Director Robert J. Ambrose praised Reid’s student-centered approach, stating the appointment ushers in a new era of excellence. Beyond performance, Reid partners with the IDEAL program to ensure ensemble accessibility for students of all abilities. Reid emphasized his commitment to designing curricula that equip students with lifelong leadership skills, focusing on their growth long after graduation.
The Panther Band was founded in 2010 alongside Georgia State’s football program and has since performed for live, televised and motion picture audiences.
