The Golden Bear Band debuted new marching uniforms this school year, featuring a black base with gold, white and gray details, a gold sash displaying TURNER, and tall black hats bearing the Turner T. According to turnerusd202.org, the uniforms offer improved comfort and functionality for student musicians.
Directors of Bands Wes Lewis and Band Director Eisenbraun developed preliminary designs, shared them with district administration and the Board of Education, then met virtually with professional uniform designers to refine concepts. Lewis said students ranked the final options before a design was chosen.
Senior Mia Melendez said the uniforms brought confidence to the band and felt like a new beginning, noting the style and ease of movement. Junior Stella Chowning said the uniforms are easier to put on and replaced worn-out predecessors with a modern marching band look.
Lewis highlighted practical updates including adjustment snaps inside pant legs and sleeves for easy alterations as uniforms pass between band members in future years. Staff later discovered the design shares features with Golden Bear Band uniforms worn decades ago, including horizontal bands across the chest and tall marching hats. Lewis expressed appreciation for the school district’s support and excitement about showcasing the new look.
