Vietnam.vn reported that the Hai Phong Department of Education and Training is collaborating with Yamaha Music Vietnam to train secondary and high school music teachers on using recorders and keyboards. This initiative prepares educators for the 2026-2027 school year under the 2018 General Education Program, which emphasizes practical student experience over passive knowledge transfer.
According to the report, teachers like Pham Xuan Duong and Nguyen Truong Diep gained confidence in integrating instruments directly into lesson plans rather than using them solely for illustration. High school educator Hoang Thu Trang noted the training supports innovative methods that foster student creativity and active participation. Since music became an elective subject for grade 10 students in 2022, approximately 40 high schools have implemented instruction alongside universal preschool through junior high offerings.
The source stated that schools are expanding extracurricular opportunities, such as the weekly music club at Thuy Son High School, to nurture student talent. Deputy Director Do Duy Hung highlighted a city vision to ensure all students can play at least one instrument by 2030. This goal aligns with the broader “Music City” project aimed at standardizing teaching staff and developing aesthetic competence. The department also launched a band competition to further discover student potential and strengthen foundational music education across the city.
