Hal Leonard has announced that effective immediately they have acquired Schaum Publications, the publisher of educational piano materials.

The joint announcement was made by Larry Morton, president of Hal Leonard, and Wesley Schaum, president of Schaum Publications.

Schaum Publications, Inc. was founded in 1959 by John W. Schaum. The company publishes scores of quality piano materials integrating method, theory, technic and repertoire into a comprehensive education for tomorrow’s musicians. The Schaum catalog includes over 700 titles including the bestselling Fingerpower® line of products that have been used by tens of thousands of piano students over the years. John’s son Wesley has been running the operation since 1989 and came to Hal Leonard when he decided it was time for a change.

Wesley stated, “We are grateful to be leaving our family’s business in the hands of another publisher that has the same respect for and dedication to music education as we have had. We’re certain the Hal Leonard team will take care of the Schaum brand and see it through for future generations of music teachers and students.”

“We couldn’t be happier to welcome the Schaum catalog to our company,” said Larry Morton, president of Hal Leonard. “We are well aware of the legacy of John and Wesley Schaum and are honored they came to us. The fact that we’re both based out of the Milwaukee area just made the connection even more natural. We look forward to keeping the Schaum titles an active part of piano pedagogy moving forward.”
