Kansas City, Mo. (KCTV) – The Harmony Project KC, located in the Pendleton Heights neighborhood of Kansas City’s Historic Northeast, provides after-school music instruction and a range of support services for students aged 8 through 18. According to Executive Director Kyla Pitts-Zevin, the program operates three times a week and includes an on-site therapy space and college readiness resources.
Pitts-Zevin stated that seven of the program’s seniors last year received full college scholarships. The program is free, and instruments are provided. The Historic Northeast is one of the most fascinating places in Kansas City, and the organization addresses challenges faced by students and families regarding safety and community engagement. The Harmony Project KC provides a $2,000 annual scholarship for four years to every graduating student.
Former participant Kevin Giraldo, now a campus aide, credits the program with boosting his confidence and enabling him to pursue his interest in electrical engineering after initially struggling with self-doubt. The program’s impact extends beyond musical skills, offering a supportive environment and resources that empower students to achieve their goals.
The Harmony Project KC is hosting a fundraising event, Night in Napa, on August 22 at the Kemper Art Museum to support its operations and provide free instruments, music instruction, and opportunities for students.
