The Hebron High School choir department will perform its annual fall concert Oct. 6 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the school auditorium, marking the ensemble’s first performance in the space since its renovation, hebronhawkeye.com reported.
The program opens with “The Star-Spangled Banner” and features repertoire across multiple ensembles. The Concert Tenor-Bass Choir will perform “Prairie Lullaby” and “Asleep in the Deep,” while Concert Treble presents “Laudate Domino” and “Music is Life.” The Belle Chanson Choir will sing “Shout for Joy” and “I Will Be Earth,” and the a cappella choir will perform “Lambscapes” and the South African piece “Ngothando.” Allstate participants will sing “I Dream a World,” with the concert closing on the school alma mater.
Head choir director Alexander Carr said repertoire was selected to accentuate each group’s strengths, with encouragement to include a variety of eras and styles. Nearly half the choir is composed of freshmen, with the junior class smaller than in past years.
Students visited the University of Texas at Dallas Oct. 1 to meet South African composer Michael Barrett, who included “Ngothando” in his choral series, learning about his call-and-response teaching methods and dancing. Trumpet player and choir member Luke Williams will also perform during the concert.
