The Don “Moose” Jamison Heritage School of Music will host auditions for its fall 2026 semester on August 29 at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center. Since 1990, the school has expanded access to high-quality instruction in instrumental and vocal performance, music theory, audio engineering, and studio recording taught by local musicians.
Curriculum offerings include a beginners program focusing on fundamentals like sight-reading and ensemble playing, alongside advanced tracks that prepare students for performances at major events such as the French Quarter Festival. Voice faculty member Quiana Lynell emphasized the importance of creating safe spaces for students to develop healthy techniques and connect with the city’s musical legacy while discovering their own authentic voices. Additional vocal workshops led by educator Tonya Boyd-Cannon aim to build solo singing skills and foster positive self-concepts through contemporary repertoire. Classes for the upcoming term run from mid-September through mid-December, with scheduling options available on weekdays and weekends to accommodate student needs.
