Columbia High School band Ouroboros partnered with middle school filmmakers from the South Mountain Film Academy to produce a music video on a Maplewood rooftop, Essex News Daily reported. The project drew thematic inspiration from The Beatles’ iconic 1969 London rooftop concert, with students directing, shooting and editing the high school ensemble performing their original track, “The New Wave.”
South Mountain Film Academy founder Chris Cassidy organized a week-long camp where students explored music video history. Cassidy said he treated the project as if the students were a production company hired to shoot a video. He noted he wanted the video to feature an original song rather than a cover, and the band selected the track. Since the making of the video, the CHS students have graduated, and Cassidy called the experience a “cherry on top of their summer.”
Cassidy said the students managed various roles effectively and incorporated footage recorded by passersby. After Cassidy completed the final editing at home with student input, he described the initiative as a giant success. Cassidy stated the group had a blast and plans to figure out how to top the achievement next year. The video is available for viewing online.
