The Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music has officially met quality standards for higher education through 2026, becoming the first of Vietnam’s three major music institutions to achieve this accreditation, according to a report by Vietnam.vn. Dr. Do Quoc Hung, the newly appointed director and a People’s Artist, stated this recognition serves as a passport for global teaching opportunities and international student enrollment.
Under the leadership detailed by Vietnam.vn, the conservatory plans to strengthen international cooperation while focusing on training, scientific research, and postgraduate education. The institution recently celebrated student achievements, including Nguyen Tran Quoc Thang reaching the finals of a piano competition in Germany and Nguyen Nam Khanh winning a special award in China.
To commemorate its 70th anniversary, the school will host the Saigon International Guitar Festival in August, featuring over 20 international artists, Vietnam.vn reported. Following this event, Director Hung will lead a delegation of 25 members to perform in Moscow and Sochi, Russia. Further celebrations include a major program in November with film screenings and performances honoring past faculty.
Future initiatives involve upgrading the concert hall with modern sound and lighting systems and expanding the Traditional Music Orchestra to highlight regional culture.
