Jason Witzigreuter, associate director of bands at Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, has been named the 2027 Indiana Teacher of the Year. 103.9 Wayne FM reported that Governor Mike Braun and Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner surprised Witzigreuter with the award during a special pep session attended by students, staff and family members.
Southwest Allen County Schools Superintendent Joshua St. John stated that the selection highlights the profound impact educators have on student lives within the district. According to the superintendent, Witzigreuter fosters an environment where students learn the value of hard work, perseverance, teamwork and belonging. St. John noted that these lessons remain with students long after they graduate from the high school program.
The honor follows Witzigreuter’s previous recognition as the 2026 teacher of the year for both Homestead High School and the Southwest Allen County Schools district. The governor and secretary joined the school community to celebrate an educator who represents what the district strives for. This distinction allows Witzigreuter to represent Indiana teachers on a broader stage.
