The Illinois State University Marching Band, known as the Big Red Marching Machine, has begun preseason preparations for the 2026 season with drills on campus and practices at Hancock Stadium. According to the local news outlet, drum majors Sam Lopatowski and Judah Crowder are leading section leaders in instructing new members during drills held early Thursday in the university quad. The publication noted that Dr. F. Mack Wood, serving as associate director of bands and director, is overseeing the group’s steady improvement as they prepare five distinct halftime shows. Student leaders and faculty directors are working together to integrate new musicians into the existing ensemble structure. The reporting highlighted activities taking place on Saturday, Aug. 15, at Hancock Stadium, where the band continued its preseason work.
